1st Paragliding Festival in Morocco [24:48]
The first paragliding festival in Morocco and in all Africa, novembre 2012 Tinghir, Ouarzazate on the Atlas Mountains. Organized by the FRMALS (federation royale maroccaine de aviation ligere) and many ministry, it has been a very interesting way to discover amazing landscapes. Part of Africa yet markedly different, Morocco is a fascinating study in contrasts. Old world medinas with noisy, narrow, winding lanes vie for attention with fashionable cafés, boutique shops and modern city centers. Sophisticated coastal cities such as Casablanca and Rabat boast an abundance of long white beaches, picturesque rocky coves and classic resorts. Berber tribes have lived in the region for thousands of years, and were first mentioned in writings of ancient Egyptians. Long-established villages such as Aït-Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, serve as strongholds that preserve the Berber lifestyle, culture, music and art. The country is also rich in Jewish heritage, with the first migration into this area coming after the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem; and a second wave arrived from the Iberian Peninsula in the period immediately preceding and following the 1492 Alhambra Decree, when the Jews were expelled from the kingdoms of Spain and Portugal. A special bike ride through Morocco starting from Tangier via chefchiuen towards mythical fes! From there we carry on to Merzouga via middle atlas and Errachidia crossing the Ziz valley and its palm grove to end up in the ancient town of Erfoud. A day trip to Erg Chebbi culminating in Merzouga's top dunes , camping under the star lit sky is a must.
