Morocco Mall à Casablanca Maroc [01:49]
Le Morocco Mall, en construction depuis 2007, a été finalement inauguré hier, jeudi 1 décembre, en grande pompe. Présidée par la princesse Lalla Meryem, la cérémonie d'inauguration officielle a notamment vu la participation d'Ahmed Reda Chami, ministre de l'Industrie, du Commerce et des Nouvelles technologies, Salwa Idrissi Akhannouch, présidente du groupe Aksal et intiatrice du projet et Cheikh Ali Al Jedaie, président et directeur général du groupe saoudien Al Jedaie. La chanteuse Jennifer Lopez a également fait le déplacement pour animer la soirée inaugurale. Ayant nécessité un investissent global de 2 milliards de dirhams, le Morocco Mall génère près de 5 000 emplois directs ainsi que 21 000 emplois indirects, rapporte la MAP. Les promoteurs du projet prévoient une moyenne de 15 millions de visiteurs par an. Plus de 350 enseignes nationales et internationales se sont déjà installées, dont la prestigieuse maison française Louis Vuitton qui vient d'ouvrir son magasin sur place. Interrogé par l'Economiste, le directeur général de Louis Vuitton pour le Maroc, l'Espagne et le Portugal, Carlos Delso a déclaré que le marché marocain « a bien mûri [...] Cela fait 11 ans que nous sommes installés au Maroc et nous arrivons au moment crucial aujourd'hui. »

Saffron: Morocco's mystic spice [02:02]
The small town of Taliouine in southern Morocco is home to the country's largest saffron fields. In many countries saffron is revered as a mystical spice with religious connotations. Despite being known as one of the world's most expensive spices, farmers earn only a small profit from huge sales around the world. The production of one single kilogram of saffron comes from 150000 flowers. The delicate task for separating the stamen from the flower is predominantly done by women. Depending on the quality and quantity of saffron one gram can cost on average US$6.28. For centuries saffron has been cultivated in the region and valued for its rich flavor as well as healing qualities. The yellow spice is also used as a coloring agent to enhance fabric and food. Unique purple flowers cover the southern Moroccan fields which produce the stamens from where saffron is derived. Efforts are being made in Taliouine to ensure farmers get their fair share of the proceeds for cultivating the spice. Moroccan authorities are encouraging farmers to plant further saffron crocus flowers to increase the local economy through escalating exports which will bring extra profit back into the North African country. The local branch of the Department of Agriculture created the initiative to offer support to thousands of farmers. Free seeds, water and advice were provided to help farmers produce more.
