Riad 144 Marrakech can take you to any sight and make you discover the best of marrakech. In this video its PALAIS BAHIA Cette folie architecturale commandée en 1880 par le grand vizir était dictée par une obsession : éviter qu'épouses et concubines se croisent. Cette grande demeure ancienne est un labyrinthe architectural, et pour cause. Tout oeil averti relèvera la complexité de l'enchevêtrement de cours et de jardins tissés autour de 160 chambres, sur 8 hectares : l'architecte marocain de l'époque a dû résoudre un casse-tête diplomatique imposé par le grand vizir. Le puissant Ahmed Ben Moussa décida en effet de faire ériger ce palais pour sa maîtresse préférée, d'où le nom de la Bahia, «la belle». Il fallait y loger ses 4 épouses, ses 24 concubines, et leurs innombrables enfants... sans que ces dames ne s'aperçoivent jamais de leurs jardins respectifs ! Un défi dont la construction dura dix ans, réquisitionnant les meilleurs artisans du royaume et expropriant nombre de voisins mitoyens.

Baraka Paths [49:38]
A documentary by Manoël Pénicaud & Khamis Mesbah (2007) Every spring, the Regragas go on pilgrimage for several hundred kilometres in Essaouira region, Morocco. Although modernists and fundamentalists would not agree, this tradition, issued from maraboutic Islam constitutes the roots of Moroccan culture. These 'pure' men visit during forty days their holy ancestors' sanctuaries, following an itinerary only known by them and stamped with Baraka, the divine gift. This is a chance to deeply discover an astonishing reality of the Muslim faith, a ritual that may date back to the beginning of Islam and North Africa's Christian past. Even today, the anticipation of the pilgrimage is palpable among the faithful followers. They watch for the caravan to come, with the hope of being cured of sickness, or getting married or giving birth, all of this thanks to Baraka. This year, Si-Ahmed, a Regraga's chief, is sick. His eldest son Abdelhaq will replace him. Si-Ahmed, who knows the ritual very well, will be with his son in his thoughts during the pilgrimage.
