Right, one should not be shelfish...I don't mind having few people around, but if the place is buzzing and people on the sand are like ants, I think I'd rather stay in Casablanca..LOOL
I intend to visit small Berber villages such as Tafraout and Tiznit where I have some of my family members, hopefully I can have some real homemade Argan, which would bring back old memories. Have you ever had that Argan oil when you were there? Sometimes they mix it up with ground Almonds and a bit of honey (It's called Amlou), you eat it with homemade whole wheat bread and you sip a nice cup of mint tea with it...Let me tell you, it is extremely delicious.
Oh so you lived in wales? Somehow I thought you were welsh but never lived there.

I've looked up on my map the villages of Tafraout and Tiznit We were nowhere near them..we travelled through the Atlas mountains, spectacular scenery, to Merzouga where we went by camel to camp at Erg Chebbie. It was great, but busier than I thought it would be. With camels carrying folks hither and thither...I was hoping for some real peace and quiet but had to wait quite late until everyone was asleep for that. I also hoped to do some serious star watching but as the wind got up, the stars were mostly obscured by the sand dust...Great shame as this now means I will have to go back again in the future.
I saw the Argan oil but did not have any to eat...maybe next trip. Loads of mint tea, very sweet and usually served with bread. Our berber guide showed us how to bake bread in the sand that was good fun.

In answer to your question ~ I was born in Wales and my parents are Welsh, we moved away for some time and moved back in my early teens. I've lived in England for years various parts...where we live now is not to far from Wales so I get to visit family from time to time.

What made you leave Morocco for the USA?

Arwen, too bad you did not get to taste Argan oil, you would have liked it I am sure.
To answer your question, I came to the US for studies. After couple of years at a University in France, decided to study in the good old USA. I am glad I did. The professors are brilliant . I have worked with some of the most famous professors in Electrical Engineering. I learned a great deal with them. After I was done, one of these professor had a small engineering company so I was hired by him and decided to stay. Alhamdoulilah, it was a good decision. I like California especially the weather, reminds me of Moroccan weather on the coast. People are very nice in the most part and that's a goo dthing. I left France because there were alot of racism towards the North Africans in general and I just could not stand it.

They say the USA is a land of oportunities, and for some I believe it's so. It's good that you've found a good life for yourself there.

I abhor racism in any form, I cannot understand racist people, don't blame you for leaving.
