Hi

I am visiting morocco for the first time from the uk, I would like to hire a car to explore the country for a couple of days and have afew questions

1 How much is car hire in agadir and how much is petrol(any extra costs at all)

2 Is driving in morocco safe and easy or would it be a better idea to go on excursions.

3 Which excursions are better ones booked through your hotel/rep or ones from independant companies in agadir.

4 Where would be the best places to visit I hear agadir is dull is there anywhere an hour or twos drive away which is worth visiting.

5 Which excursions would be best to go on marrakech sounds interesting but it looks like a long trip.

6 Are there many nice restaurants and bars/cafebars in agadir.

Many thanks for reading this and I apologise for my ignorance about Morocco and look forward to being educated by anyone on here asap
Also any suggestions about what to do where to go how to dress and behave will be greatly appreciated.
many thanks

You can arrange excursions through your hotel. Otherwise there are companies advertising on the streets. Check out the square near the Theatre - I saw adverts there for excursions to Marrakech, Immouzer, Taroudant.

I wouldn't bother with Taroudant - I was bored senseless and left after an hour . Marrakech is a long journey so make it a 48h excursion. Same with Essaouira. They are both worth visiting. Immouzer isn't too far but there is nothing particularly special there.

There are bars and restaurants everywhere you turn (include Maccy D's & Pizza Hut of course ). Authentic Moroccan food, move away from the tourist zone but ask for advice from hotel staff. They can direct you somewhere nice.

As for how to dress, unless you are a stripper, you won't be wearing less than most locals down there . Kidding! Its a modern city so you don't have to worry too much. Try not to flash too much flesh at night simply because you may get unnecessary attention. No serious harassment - but stares can be unnerving for someone who has not visited before.

Do not hire a car. Driving in Morocco is a nightmare. Best to get taxis - they are readily available and cheap. If you do want to rent, go through Hertz, Avis or one of the other companies in the usual way.
