Thank you Hicham. It is clear where we are going 'wrong'. We need to eliminate the Cheesecake Gene & then the problem is solved.

Salam ~G ~

I totally overlooked your post.

I suppose what I mean by quality of education is the formal education system in Morocco. For example, the internal inadequacy is high, as I’m sure you’ll agree that this is witnessed by the many students dropping out and repeating.

As for the Moroccan community in the UK, I couldn’t comment simply because I don’t mix with Moroccans. I know a couple of Moroccans, but to make a generalisation wouldn’t be accurate.

Having, said this there is no excuse when living in the UK, as there are so many educational opportunities available for Moroccans. But, it’s unfortunate that some prefer to remain ignorant and not better themselves.

Wa Salam

Ghazala and Andalousi I see the same lack of educational attainment within the Moroccan community in Denmark, although the tendency has turned for the better in recent years. But unfortunately an over-representation of arab/muslim students in some colleges have meant deterioration in the quality of education.

There have been a lot of discussions among principals concerning whether or not examination requirements and subjects should be altered according to the new situation. This issue was based on the fact that at some of those colleges the Muslim students (in my opinion) abused their democratic rights by refusing to study Darwin’s theory on evolution. I mean, according to Islam “reading” or education is a very important requirement specifically stated in the Quran. We don’t have to agree with everything we read, but it’s not haram to study other religions or beliefs – it’s the only way to understand other people.

Ghazala, the most popular subjects among Muslim students in DK are just like you said either traditional academic subjects like medicine/engineering/economics etc. or none at all! I realise that students at Danish polytechnic schools face an immense risk of unemployment, because of the present discriminating situation within that field. Those students need a craft’s apprenticeship to finish their education, but are usually refused by the employers and the sad consequence is you never meet a professional Moroccan plumber or painter!

A subject I find very important is journalism. It’s literally neglected by Muslims! So yes, on this point we could learn a lot by Jews and Asians.

BTW Hisham - I wouldn't call it distraction but mere laziness....
