Casablanca..big and dirty city My dreams shattered I must confess I was seeing it through Bogart/Bergman glasses. Still never mind when things seem down the only way is up and I'm sure one day it will be great again. Maybe for my visit.

Casablanca started its rise to an important "big city" in the last century during the french protectorate between 1912 and 1956, of course the area where the city is was inhabited for centuries, it was called Anfa which is a berber name if i'm not mistaken, it was taken over by the portuguese sometime in the 15th century. If you're interested in its history, you should have plenty of references at the history department of a university near you

Thanks for the info HB77. I work in a library, so have access to books and information at my fingertips, unfortunatley when at work I rarely have the time to browse

The history sounds interesting. I like history as a subject we can all learn lessons from the past and hopefully not make the same "mistakes" in the future. Of course that does'nt always follow.

You must be working in a very busy library then.

IMHO you can't be interested in other cultures without having interest in history. And you're right, it seems that the majority of people's memory is like a computers RAM
