The soul and the spirit of man is so entertwined that it is difficult to separate the two. But here is a biblical clue to understand human destination relating to spirit and soul.

In the living/breathing sense, even animals have souls. But animals have no spirit. In Hebrew it is called nephesh -- this nephesh was applied to both man and animals in creation.

Animals has no concept of judgment and sin; but it has instinct and employs its own defensive mechanism when threatened. When an animal kills a human, we do not drag it to court for judgment. We can only kill it so it does not take more lives. Killing animals is no sin, otherwise much of the world will starve.

The thing that separates man from animals is the "spirit". Throughout the Bible spirit is applied only to God, man, and Satan (whose followers are evil spirits).

Therefore there is the possibility of man to be filled by the Spirit of God, or possessed by demonic spirit. Or live on earth without either one -- which is where many in the world are.

Because the human spirit is immortal and will live on for eternity, God is reaching out to them in love. Satan too is working hard to deceive man and make him miss the call of God.

Satan is a fallen spirit (angel) and wishes to gain more followers.

Resurrection (also called Easter) week is near, and those who accept Christ will have the resurrection Spirit -- after physical death, their spirits will rise again and receive new bodies (untaineted by the earthly curse).

The desires of the flesh sometimes are against the will of God, and the soul rationalise to indulge the flesh. It is the spirit that is always willing to do God's will.

The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. This is where fasting and prayer curb the power of the flesh and give the spirit to align with God's will better.

Prayer to determine God's will, otherwise the flesh will lead one further away from God.

asSalaamu 3laykum ya Pharess,
The Christians have a different belief of the soul than Muslims and other religions. They believe the soul is perfect but the flesh/human body is at default a bad sinful thing due to 'original sin'.

I have already discussed this on a couple of occassions with Theja so I will not delve over and over again on repeative topics.

HAPPY EASTER....

In heaven there is neither marriage nor sex (so much for the virgins for martyrs). The desire of the world, or the flesh, will vanish (1 John 2:15-17).

Jesus died and rose again. He demonstrated His power by raising people from the death, and by His RESURRECTION. The believers in Christ will die and give up this weak fleshly body, and will rise again in immortal bodies. They will be like the angels in heaven (Matthew 22:29-30).

The joys of heaven will be so wonderful we earthling cannot even begin to comprehend it. I find it amusing that some people are not so enthusiastic because sex will not be there in heaven.

Sex is for earth only, for temporary pleasure and procreation within proper marriage bounds. If God can devise such a pleasurable experience for mankind, one should also think God can devise heavenly pleasures totally out of this world beyond what we can comprehend now.

Peace, joy, and life forevermore.
