This is not Sharia we see in practice. It is repression by corrupt clergy. The Iranian example is not representative of the rest of the Islamic world. The burden of proof is very high under Sharia law. The Iranian Justice System is corrupt, there is no division of power and it is therefore in no way independent.

It is a wide spread cutlural phenomena that stems from before Islam and Christianity. It was a practice that the asSyrians and Babylonians used to protect the honour of their family.

Just as female circumcision is a North Eastern African practice with Christians and Muslims (re: Egypt, Ethopia, Somalia, asSudan, etc.) and not at all related to any religious doctirine.

Of course you will not see this in the American media, it is much easier to stigmatize the Muslims and say 'see what these crazy heathens do'. In reality most Americans are not interested in what others think or what they actually do. Of course the outsiders are witnessing this and it deepens the hate. Threads like this contributes to it.
