I heard it's still a concreate plan to build one
-------------------
Chris Reeve came in to talk to BBC Somerset Sound reporter Jess Rudkin about his beliefs and intentions for the church...

What kind of religion is Satanism?

"Satanism is an earth-based religion. All demons relate to various elements within earth; Satan is the element of fire.

"To a certain extent it has similarities to paganism. Both are earth religions, but Satanism looks at the darker side of nature."

Do you consider it a religion?

"Yes, it's a religion. We have practices that most faiths have. We have meetings; I can perform weddings, funerals etc."

What is Satanism actually about?

"There are two types of Satanism - traditional Satanism, which worships the Devil as a person, and modern Satanism, which worships Satan as an element; this is what I'm a Priest in.

"They're two completely different things. Modern Satanism is about being yourself. There aren't any constrictions within it.

"It's basically self-fulfillment - making yourself feel good without hurting anyone."

Why do you need to make this a religion?

"A lot of people feel they need something else, to be a part of something. As with Christianity, people go to Church because they want to.

"Satanists get bad press, however. We're accused of being the devil himself and people are frightened of the religion."

Many people associate Satanism with animal sacrifices. Is this what you do?

"No, not at all. The point of sacrifice in traditional Satanism is to heighten a magical presence.

"Modern Satanism says that this chemical release will come from within when performing certain rituals. We're strictly against sacrifice.

"We do have an altar and candles, and we do dress up in cloaks that cover our faces, even though people interpret this in a negative way."

Do you think Taunton is the right place for this?

"Yes, I believe there is a strong interest which necessitates having a Satanic church which people can approach."

OK, well it's not my cup of tea either but what do you want to happen? The government to ban it?

This is an interesting subject. Actually a lot of people do not know what the 'church of satan' is all about. In a nutshell: it is all about furthering human (self) endevors. What they claim is that they believe in getting what it is what they want (i.e. a good job, money, women, etc.). They believe that satan their liberator against a 'slave driving god'; that it is unfair that The God gave us free will and forbade us all of these 'pleasures' and we should have to worship Him. This sounds a lot like humanism and the church of satan is happy to point out that that belief (as well as others) are exactly what they believe in.

That is all I am going to say about this subject for now.

Talking It's rather funny though...

Even the Church of Satan members are not happy with Chris Reeve's version of Satanism.
