Furthermore, there was no sovreign state of any kind in Palestine prior to 1948. It was an imperialist, colonial entity (Ottoman then British). The Palestinian population was treated in a grossly unfair and inhuman way, and there should be redress for that. But let's stick to the facts when we're dealing with the issue.

I too do not believe it is an issue of Jews or Muslims. I believe it is an issue of human rights. Too bad there are those (from a range of faiths) who use religions as a tool to spread their demegogery. I think it is the duty of free-thinkers to shine the light on this and support human rights.

Oh, no worries, I know it well. If the Turks were still there I would have some hot words for them (actually I do for how they treat the Kurds).
Indeed, I too think that there were big historic injustices towards the Kurds in Turkey. You will no doubt therefore be pleased to hear that the Muslim AK government in Turkey has (in the face of considerable military opposition) enforced massive civil rights reform and invested heavily in SE Turkey.

Some good news does happen.

I am pleased to hear that. I hope something like that happens in Iran as well. Unlikely but I hope so. I think for Turkey they kinda have to; the must do all they can to get into the EU. I do not think it is out of the concern of their heart.
Now if they can remove that facist Ata Türk's picture from basicly everywhere I think that would be great.

umm everyone keeps talking about religion.
Has anyone actually sat down and listened to the people whose houses were bombed by Israel? or those whose lands were stolen?.
As to the history of the Jews? well one can only goe back to David(pbuh) time and see who were the real owner of that Land.

Phalestinians are not all muslims. there are JEWS Arabs(Jews' cousins) and Christians
Isn't it time to put religion aside and give the poor people their land back ?.

Malik, with the information I have, I disagree with your comments and agree with V_P observations.

The present government of Turkey is finally an Islamist government and they are taking huge risks in adopting certain policies to the great displeasure of the Kemalist Military.

I would say the Kemalist generals are tolerating the policies of the Islamist government only because they want to see an integration into the EU. However that is not the motivation for the Islamist Turkish government.

V_P's post is also in line with the original topic of the thread. That is, the Islamist government has dealt with tolerance with its Kemalist military nemesis.

Unlike the Islamists in Algeria who were poised to win the elections, the Islamist in Turkey have adopted a different style of non-violence, patience and perseverence to bring about a change even when they were kicked out of government and jailed after comming in power the first time.

Errrm Tihad, I'm not being funny buddy but I know all this already (that Palestinians are not all Muslim etc).

Yes, there has to be a just settlement. The question is how to do it in a way that is just for all concerned.
