But not a free man..
How come not a single soul on this forum mentions our fellow Moroccan and how come no single Christian on this forum mentions their fellow Christian brother, slain, tortured and tormented by the Israeli government In fact the minister of interior affairs from Israel calls him a traitor because he left his faith (amongst things) I would appreciate to see your responses

Asslam Alaikoum Ftoma,
He's hardly a free man * No passport * May not leave Israel for a year * Contact with foreigners only by permission * Barred from foreign embassies * Media interviews not permitted * Banned from discussing nuclear secrets Wa Salam |

Quote:
I know about the restrictions. That is why I write initially "not a free man". (Hence I posted this early morning) And he already violated them. Courageous man! I saw his release live on television this morning. And I have been following his case since the eighties until now. I cannot believe back in 1986 Morocco did not mention Vanunu to Mr Perez (responsable for Vanunu's emprisonment) when the relations between Hassan Tani and Perez were HOT. Another forgotten prisoner of the Israeli theocracy: Marouan Barghouti Fi amanillah F.

From the Haaretz
Last Update: 21/04/2004 16:19 Lapid vows Israel will keep an eye on Vanunu ![]() Justice Minister Yosef Lapid vowed on Wednesday that Israel would keep a close eye on newly-released nuclear whistleblower Mordechai Vanunu. "He's hell-bent to do as much harm as he can," Lapid told The Associated Press. "We will keep an eye on him, we will watch him ... We want to know where he is and we want to know [to] whom he may or may not divulge state secrets." Defense Ministry spokeswoman Rachel Niedak-Ashkenazi said the security services have confiscated several tapes and notebooks with Vanunu's writings. In Hebrew and English, Vanunu wrote a detailed account of places, processes and areas of the nuclear reactor, she said, adding that he has an "excellent memory." "It was a lot more than a personal diary. To us this showed an intention and ability to make future use of it," Niedak-Ashkenazi said. Vanunu said the papers were personal and had been written in 1991. Lapid also told AP that no precautions or special security measures have been taken for Vanunu, despite his family's concerns for his safety. "He's surrounded by at least 100 radicals who are worshipping him so I'm sure they'll take care of his safety," he said. British actress Susannah York, among the anti-nuclear campaigners who came to Israel to celebrate Vanunu's release, said: "It's a gross violation of human rights. Eighteen years ago, he told everything he knew." Among those waiting to greet him were Nick and Mary Eoloff, an American couple who adopted Vanunu in a failed bid to win him U.S. citizenship. Most of Vanunu's family have disowned him. The Sunday Times newspaper welcomed his release from prison on Wednesday, but protested Israel's restrictions on his movements. Sunday Times managing editor Richard Caseby said Vanunu had not been paid for his 1986 story. Asked if The Sunday Times was paying for the Jaffa apartment, Caseby replied only that the newspaper was giving Vanunu "some assistance." He would not give details. Peter Hounam, the journalist who wrote the 1986 article, was among those welcoming Vanunu in Jerusalem after his release from prison. In a statement expressing "delight" that Vanunu had been released, Caseby said, "we are appalled that the Israeli government continues to impose severe restrictions on his freedom of movement and freedom of speech." "Vanunu is a genuine whistleblower, not a traitor," Caseby said. "He came to the Sunday Times to tell us about Israel's secret nuclear weapons program because he believed it was important that the Israeli people know what was being done in their name. "He believed it was the proper function of democracy to have a free and open debate about the state program for building such weapons." Also in Britain, five anti-nuclear protesters were arrested Wednesday after breaking into a military command center to draw attention to Britain's nuclear arsenal and mark Vanunu's release. Police said three men and two women had been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage after breaching the perimeter fence at the Northwood base north of London, a major NATO command center. They were being questioned at a police station nearby, Hertfordshire Police said. The peace group Trident Ploughshares said the protest had been timed to coincide with the release of Vanunu. The activists wore Vanunu masks as they entered the base, the group said. "Today, we acted to continue with the vital work started by Vanunu, and to expose the hypocrisy and secrecy that is government policy towards Britain's own WMD (weapons of mass destruction)," said spokesman Joss Garman.

Hello Jer
I don't understand what you mean he was never our fellow Moroccan? A Moroccan is a Moroccan, regardless his faith. I grew up in a neighborhood with plenty of Moroccan sephardim. They held Moroccan passports as anybody else. It is said that some Imazighen tribes (e.g. from Sefrou, Tafilelt) were Jews before they converted to Islam. Kahina is said to be Jewish... so again: what is your`point? You want segregation between Jews and Arabs...? Half of Moroccans are not even fully Arabs. Regardless, we are all semites (ashkenazi exluded ofcourse!!!) Regards, F.

you would be right if Jew meant faith, judaism is a faith, a belief system, Jewish is being part of a nation, for example, their are buddhist Jews, atheist Jews, etc. the distinction between ashkenazi and sephardi is a geographic one, there was no such distinction in Israel, before the exile,(70 bc). ie, half the people settled Europe, the other half Spain then North Africa etc. I actually would question the semitic ancestry of Arabs, Jews have been held throughout the exile by strict marital laws, whereas Arabs mixed with so many peoples and tribes, who knows who is a true semite among them.
