Buying an engagement ring in Marrakech

Hi, good to be back after a prolonged absence.

I'll be in Marrakech at the beginning of May and I'm going to ask my girlfriend to marry me while we're there. I'd like to buy a ring for her from a boutique in the city, I'm looking for something interesting rather than the usual diamond ring that's the norm here in the UK.

Can anyone suggest some suitable places to look? I would obviously be prepared to pay for quality considering how important this is to me. I think I would prefer a shop or boutique rather than a market stall but I'm not really sure.

I think what I'm really looking for is some suggestions for jewellers in the city.

Thanks in advance!

Scott, WB.

A golden ring... well with the prices of gold going up, you may want to bring a stack of cash then. In Morocco gold is sold by the gram, yes even jewelry.

How about saphires and emerald? That's something different than a diamond, though still in the same price range though.

Unfortunately I do not know any jewelers in Marakkech, but I am sure if you walk around Guéliz (the new city) you will see plenty of them.
It's important to know that the gold sold in Morocco is 18 ct. Make sure you know the value per gram the day you leave, so you will get a fair price.

Bargaining is always worth a try!
