i was reading the story while out having coffee this morning, those figures may make people think differantly!!

Nah, its the boobies on the front of the Daily Star which grab their eyes. Or the latest headline on the Sun or Mirror. Or worse, the Daily Mail

The govt knows damn well how much immigrants are contributing. If they wanted to deport them, they know where they are but the fact is, they know that they, I mean WE, are essential. They won't regularise them because it rubs racist voters up the wrong way. So these poor people are left in the shadows.

They should just have a complete amnesty and issue work permits to all people currently working illegally due to immigration rules. Then, straight away a so-called "problem" would metamorphose overnight into a tax-paying positive thing for UK society.

i dont see what the big deal about immagrants is cos they never steal the good jobs like doctors and solicitors, they end up cleanin or learnin the great british phrase "would you like fries with that"

Illegal immigrants may not be among the top earners but you would be amazed at the number of doctors, lawyers, scientists, dentists, engineers coming in as asylum seekers. Iraqis for example are coming in large numbers. Afghanistan and CHina also had large numbers of educated people fleeing. Given the right to work & re-train, they would 'steal the jobs'. If they didn't, their kids will

I agree with VP - regularise everyone already here. Then open up quotas for work permits according to demand. That'll please Daily Mail readers no end
