King returns to laayoune after dedicating several projects in Boujdour
Laayoune, Mar. 24 - King Mohammed VI, accompanied by his younger brother Prince Moulay Rachid, returned here on Friday coming from Boujdour, where he dedicated several economic and social development projects.
In Boujdour, the King kicked off project on drinking water supply and sanitation and inaugurated the Mohammed VI mosque.
On the occasion, he was briefed on the programs of the Habous and Islamic Affairs Ministry to fight illiteracy and construct mosques in the southern provinces, part of the efforts within the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) to reactivate the mosques' role in spreading knowledge.
The efforts are made to build a democratic and modern society rejecting exclusion and fighting poverty and at the same time securing lasting development, cohesion and reinforcing social ties, dignity, skills and merits.
The literacy program in the southern provinces benefits 6919 people, including 5738 women, though the initial objective planned to teach writing and reading to 1296 people, which is a performance rate of 533,87%.
The literacy program is dispensed in 104 mosques, mobilising a total of 113 teachers, including 18 women and 19 teaching advisers and inspectors. At the national level, the program was attended up to February by 124.022, including 92.553 women.
The sovereign was also briefed on the Islamic Affairs Ministry program on the construction of 16 mosques in the southern provinces in 2006 that are to cost MAD 44Mn, 1 USD is 9Mads. The mosques are to be build in the regions of Guelmim-Smara, Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia-Hamra and Oued-Eddahab Lagouira.
The sovereign, who had arrived in Laayoune on Monday travelled to Boujdour on Wednesday. He inaugurated on Thursday the construction works of the port of Boujdour and was briefed on the projects aiming to reinforce water supply facilities and drains in the city.
On Wednesday, the Monarch had inaugurated the extension of the port of the southern city of Laayoune planned to accompany the port growing activity and on Tuesday, he launched several water and sanitation projects to benefit the populations of the city.
