Mother of the king of morocco says he is in ‘hell’
WASHINGTON: The mother of the king of morocco, who faces the death penalty for his role in the September 11 attacks, said he is in “hell”, as she arrived in the United States to attend his sentencing trial. Aicha el-Wafi arrived from France Saturday to attend the opening days of his trial in a federal courthouse in Alexandria, Virginia, where a jury will decide whether he will be executed in connection with the 2001 attacks. She wept as she was greeted by two friends at a Washington airport but refused to speak to journalists. Earlier in the week, she told AFP that even if Moussaoui was an Al-Qaeda member, he never committed any crime. “I hope that the American people are not blind to the point of swallowing what the prosecutor says. He has admitted he is an Islamist. He has admitted he is with Al-Qaeda. But he has not committed any offense at all,” she said. El-Wafi, a petite woman of 59 with a contagious smile, has not seen her son “Zac” since July 2002. Speaking to AFP from France by telephone before departing for Washington, she had little optimism about his situation. “It is I who brought him into the world and I am going to see him in hell, that’s all. I am going to be in hell myself, but that’s how it is,” she said. afp
