Help regarding an immigration situation

sallamo alaikom

I am trying to bring my mother to live with me in the US. I am a US citizen now and have a question about the whole process. Can anybody who's been through the process summarize it for me.

I know I have to file my certificate of birth with her name on it, but I know in morocco, the way they represent the mother's name is like this: First name + daughter + full name of mother's father. Such as: Fatima bent Chakour Hassan.
Do you think this can be a problem? Another thing, my mother's name on her passport is like this: Her maiden name + first name + epouse + my father's last name. Chakour Fatima epouse Ihssane. My question is: what name should I use for the I-130. Fatima Chakour, or Fatime Ihssane. Thank you.

Salam

your mum's name should never cause any problem . because muslims do not change their identity (which is a bonus) that is well known by all authorities. so whatever name you want to use is fine as long as you mention all names on the forms . bear in mind you are not the first Moroccan to bring your mother there. call the immigration office and ask them or call the Moroccan ambassy. they know better.

I would think that you should use whatever name she uses now... the documentaion won't be unusual to the people processing it. Dealing with foreign documents and the idiosyncracies associated with such is what they do every day.

It's interesting that you mention that Muslims don't change their identity. My husband's mom uses her husband's name, but his sister uses her maiden name. So it sounds like keeping the maiden name is the more common way?

After 9/11 you never know with the INS!!!

But have your mom notorize the Moroccan documents with Apostille! at the American consulate. If you have everything else in order, she'll be fine with the name-thing
