Aswad, I'm also curious to know what our Muslim friends say in answer to your question, but I doubt that it's any different from how Christians (or Jews or Hindus or anyone else on the planet for that matter) don't always do the things we have been taught are religiously correct.
As a Protestant Christian, I've been taught that sex before marriage is wrong, but I did it anyway. I was taught not to use the Lord's name in vain, but I still cuss (that's cursing, for us Southern Americans!) when I get really angry. Some Protestant denominations are against drinking alcohol or even dancing, but some (many?) people in those churches do it anyway. I have plenty of Catholic friends, married and not, who use birth control, against the teachings of the Church. And let's not even approach the subject of some American Catholic priests sexually abusing little boys, which would be against anyone's religious teachings. Some of these things are just examples of "nobody's perfect" but some of these things are examples of blatant hypocrisy.... knowing and loudly saying all the "right" things while clearly ignoring it and doing whatever the heck you darn well please. In your scenario, I'd say that your hypothetical "good Muslim" is not a good Muslim, but a hypocritical one. He would however get (in my mind, not sure about the eyes of Islam) extra points for trying to get strength from God to stop his bad behaviors. Just my 2 cents! |

Aswad
Thre is islam and Muslims. like there is a law and prisons and courts and getting people to obeye the law is no different than getting Muslims to obeye God's laws. the muslims you are talking about are examples in the Quran. they are not devoted muslims. Its like some one born to a family and it gets called Nice but he turns out to be evil. this title is always with him but we all know that the is evil. When God speaks to us he does not say o! muslims but he says O! MANKIND. I hope that explained things better so when you see a muslim woman walking hands in hands with a muslim man and they are not husband and wife or mahram you can be 100% sure that is HARAM and no doubt about it. sleeping with anyone is haram so those Tunisian Moroccan etc.. who drink and sleep around are making fool of themselves. I know a lot of people on this board will try to make excuses but the Quran is clear ---------------------------------------------------- The meaning of the word haram is:"Not permitted, not allowed, unauthorized, unapproved, unsanctioned, unlawful, illegal, illigitimate or illicit." The meaning of the word Halal is: "Permitted, allowed, authorised, approved, sanctioned, lawful, legal, legitimate or licit." ------------------------------------------------------------- |

I'm a little disapointed that TheTruth was the only Muslim to respond to Aswad's question.
I certainly didn't want my response to be one of only 2, particularly when she was seeking the Muslim perspective!
