Lightbulb Fate in Islam

Salaam alaikom everyone,

I was asked a question at work about Fate in Islam. Can we change our Fate? Are things predestined already?

I had to think, in morocco people tend to say mektab.

I have found the Fatwa in reply to this, but thought it will be interesting to see your views.

Basaalaaaaaamaaaaaaa

Wa Alaykom Salam

I try to explain it in a very simple maneer.
Imagine there are millions of lanes that lead to main destiny. no matter what route you take you shall get there. these are main destinies. the lanes you use are your choice. if you believe in God and do what he asked you then you shall take the only lane that is straight. if not you take the one after it which has few calamities. you pray you end up taken better one. you don't you get lost like in a maze and only your brain is your helper. you may get there quickly you may not.
another way to look at it
Imagine the sky is raining with baloons some explode others do not. those that explode are your calamity. those that do not are your bounties. if you pray God then minimise your calamities by keeping you away from them. you don't it becomes your luck and how you avoid it.
another example.

Imagine this
You have a book full of do this and you get that. you avoid this you end up here.etc......... all the destinies are preprogramed but the choice is yours.

This is very important because if one undertand it he or she shall never fear. absolutly never fear.
1- you know that no matter what happen you can not die unless if God says so
2- that you shall never starve unless God says so
If for example you rely 100% on God then you are the winner because no matter what you do and it has to be good then you are always happy even if you have a big accident and lose everything cos deep down you know God is the one who plan things for you.(you say never mind God is in charge)
the moment you fear others then God leaves you to it untill you believe in him 100% and when you rely on others that is whn the fear and pain occur
Remember it is the hand that does evil and not God. god watches and hears. when you do and ask fo rhelp then God commands the evil to go away, you don't it depends on God. sometimes you can be a bad person for lets say 10 years and God can still help you because he knows that one day you shall be good and make up for all the evil you are doing. and because we do not know we get angry but really we should have faith in God he knows best.

Allah (SWT) had pre written each persons life from start to finish, the life we live is a playback of what has been written for us in this life on earth.

asSalaamu 3laykum,

When talking about Islam we should go into what Islam teaches:

Jabreyl said, “Inform me about Iman (faith).” The Holy Prophet (S3WS) replied, “That you affirm your faith in Allah, His angels, His Books, His Apostles, the Day of Judgment, and you affirm your faith in destiny (qadar), its good and its evil.” He (the angel Jabreyl) said, “You have told the truth.” - Sa7ey7 Muslim

Qadar- destiny (from QDR- ability, power; choice). The word implies the measuring out of something or fixing a limit to it.
AlLah (SWT) is alQadr, the all powerful. He also is the all knowing, all wise, alHakeym. We as humans do not have access to this wisdom or knowledge, and thus we act in accordance to our will and desires from within ourselves.
AlLah (SWT) has willed that we act based on choice.
'Qadar' is the more appropriate word to use in Islamic terminology for destiny then 'mektab'.

“If something befalls you, don’t say: If only I would have done such and such, rather say: Allah foreordained this, and whatever He wishes, He does; for verily the phrase ‘if only I would have’ makes way for the work of Satan”. -Sa7ey7 Muslim

The only 'true' moment that we have is the present and we are to base our decesions on that very moment. Past and present are but ghosts to us. Yet it is only by the will of AlLah (SWT), as in all things, that He allows us this thing of making decesions. Qadar does not take away our freedom of choice and action. It is our willful choice of those actions from our inherent possibilities that are in harmony with AlLah’s will that earns us our reward from AlLah (SWT).

The Prophet Muhammad (S3WS) asked one of his Companions, “Shall I not guide you to words that are a treasure from the treasures of Paradise?” He said, “Of course, O Messenger of Allah!” The Prophet (S3WS) said, “There is no ability or power except through Allah” -Sa7ey7 Bukhari and Muslim
