Blimey!
![]() http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/mid...st/4681294.stm This is going too far! why are some Muslims turning into lunatics???? There is no excuse for some of the atrocious behaviour taking place around the world - the threats of further terrorism, slaughter, death threats - other stupid and dangerous slogans that have been handwritten on placards, waved about in LONDON? the burning of diplomat buildings in Syria - even the temporary kidnapping of a foreigner in WB.. don't some of these people realise they are making themselves and other Muslims look like total nutters. What has been happening is far from being in the best interest of Muslims and the image of Islam to non Muslims - so many non Muslims can't stand us, they think we are vile, terrorists and that Islam is not a peaceful religion... and the crap happening is adding credence to such prejudices... I am offended by those drawings - but I am also offended and embarrassed by what has happened in the past few days - why is the reaction happening now? why not back in September or whenever those pictures were 1st published? I'm sure that if we go back in this forum we can find the thread that referred to this, when it was actually in print. Anyhow I hope things die down - because things seem to be getting worse by the day... what next? I would be interested to know what other people think of the reaction to those cartoons - cos' a lot has been happening in the past few days? BTW, did anyone see the cartoon in the Guardian -a picture of a pig saying to camel "Oh Oh - Mo has got the hump again" |

I'm not quite sure what the artist is implying with that cartoon but I'm sure some knucle-brain somewhere will find it offensive.
You know, all this nonsense over those silly cartoons doesn't suprise me one bit. I think Muslims are just too easily offended. I've started to see all the old standby arguments/excuses floating around. "The West just doesn't understand Islam" and "It's only a handful of extremists" - blahbiddy blah blah blah. |

Well the public reaction from British Muslims (those brandishing threatening placards) are a minority - similar could be said about those happening in other parts of the world - that is not saying that a minority can't cause much fuss and damage.
Muslims have good reasons to feel offended by the inflammatory pictures - 1 - for depicting The Prophet, or any Prophet (in any Islamic context) is a great taboo - 2 the context of those pictures. It is like Catholics getting offended by many things that caused outrage from the Like a Prayer video - to the artworks by Gilbert and George. I think the Guardian cartoon is in relation to the current clash between Europe - Denmark even, and the mostly Arab world - both animals representing such peoples - I doubt it is a religious dig.. |
