Morocco hopes emigrants return to contribute to kingdom's development
The Moroccan government seeks the support of the European countries so that Moroccans living abroad can return to their homeland and contribute to its economic development, said Nouzha Chekrouni, minister delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
In an interview published Sunday by the Spanish agency EFE, Chekrouni expressed the government's determination to see foreign-based Moroccans establish themselves and participate in the workshops of development launched in the Kingdom.
Chekrouni explained that the Moroccan government is working on the reforms necessary to facilitate the return of the Moroccans living abroad and their contribution to the Kingdom's socio-economic development.
The minister stressed that the objective consists in “providing the civil society with sufficient means to guarantee the social well-being of the citizens, generate more wealth and attract more investors to seize the opportunities that the country offers”.
According to Chekrouni, it will take at least five years before the government bears the fruits of this, adding that carrying out this objective needs “a change in the social and cultural life and in the educational system in Morocco.”
“When these reforms will be implemented, a great deal of Moroccans will be encouraged to return to the Kingdom to invest and participate in its development,” she the government, who took part this week in Grenade (Southern of Spain) in a study day on "the Moroccan migration and its contribution to the success of the process of human development,".
The minister recalled that the Moroccan community residing abroad moved from 160,000 people in 1968 to 5.09 million in 2004, 3,8 million of whom live in France, the Netherlands, uk, Germany, Italy, Spain and Belgium
