Oujda to organise first Rai festival in 2006

The first festival of Rai music will take place in Oujda, eastern city in Morocco, where Rai is treasured by a large public of youth. The organisation of this festival aims at improving the economic sector of the city.

A conference on the first Rai festival of Oujda was held on Dec.22. The meeting was presided by the Wali of the region and the governor of Oujda-Angad prefecture, Mohammed Ibrahimi.

Considering the importance of Rai music in the cultural and artistic domain, especially in the eastern area of Morocco, the participants of the meeting, including experts in this field, owners of travel agencies and economic actors, underlined that the organisation of such festivals will help improve the economy of this region.

The Wali of the eastern region indicated that the project of organising such a festival figures in the process of capitalisation of the cultural field, taking into consideration the importance of Rai music in the history of the region and its youthful population.

He has also underlined the importance of making all economic and financial actors participate at the realisation of this cultural event to make it an artistic tradition for Oujda.
