Spain
Majority of babies born to immigrants have Moroccan origins

The majority of new-born babies from immigrants are from Moroccan women, showed a recent report by the Spanish National Institute of Statistics.

Moroccan women residing in Spain gave birth to 23,016 babies in 2004. This represents 44% of new born babies from immigrant women, a rise of 29% compared to 2003.

According to Spanish official figures based on a recent census, Moroccans living legally in Spain represent the first foreign community in the country. Their number stands at 673,048.

Last December, the Spanish Ministry of Labour indicated that 164,477 Moroccans, who have been given resident permits by Spain between February and May 2005, were registered in social insurance.

No, it hasn't been like that here since 1983 or thereabouts. That's why illegals in the UK would pop over to Dublin to give birth. No passport controls in the common travel area. Give birth, get birth certificate, then pop back over here to get passport for child from Irish Embassy in London. I think that has been stopped now too tho'. France used to be the same too - I know people who would go on holiday there for the last weeks of their pregancy, stay with family until a month or so after the birth when the papers were done before returning home to maghreb. This was done to get a French passport & a way for the kids to have an easy way to Europe when they were old enough. Those were the days eh? Off to Spain then I guess

Joking aside, this population 'boom' & the increase of unaccompanied children arriving in Europe is due to this closed border nonsense.

Well i think its all unfair anyway...why are all these tourists allowed to flow in and outta morocco, yet the moroccans aren't allowed to do the same...if there wernt all these restrictions of leavin the country around then the hype of goin to kharij wouldnt be so great...

Im thinkin the application of some reverse psychology would be good here...but its too late now the damage is done...

Policy is so hard to formulate. Europe has an ageing population so needs immigrants. However, they need immigrants who will WORK and pump money back into the state coffers to pay out to the elderly, the sick etc. Open the doors without thinking about it could mean even more demands on public funds. Look at our own community. Early families who came in worked hard. 2 or 3 jobs was common. Unskilled jobs usually but they managed to work, save money, bring up families AND send money home. Newer families are more savvy & are attacking the social security system. There were never so many unemployed families when I was growing up. Hands up who knows a fully fit person who is on benefits & working cash in hand, while claiming council housing they may actually be renting out?

Current controls should be loosened to allow workers in BUT there needs to be something to stop people taking the pish. Work Permits for 'blue collar' workers; which is what most are for one reason or another.

AS for lure of kharij - that has more to do with satellite TV & the false image they get of zmegriya going home in the summer. Giving them free visas to Europe won't stop that.
