Maybe fashion, when it comes to the different styles of Hijaab. I know since the popularity of Iqraa (an Islamic satellite channel) - many women have become more comfortable about wearing Hijaab - cos' they know it can look very stylish and can be worn with fashionable clothes.
As for those who wear or do not wear the Hijaab - it is a matter of different choices. There are some non Hijaabi women who will wear the Hijaab, once they feel comfortable in it. Others don't like it. Others like it and wear Hijaab - Others are told to wear Hijaab by Parents/Husband/etc- Others wear Hijaab because they feel that they are fulfilling religious convictions. |

In islam , hijab is an obligation on women and man . but some prefer not to wear it
God states: "Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty...And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and adornments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers...(a list of exceptions)" [Chapter 24, verses 30-31] Also, "O Prophet! Tell thy wives and daughters, and the believing women, that they should cast their outer garments over their persons...that they should be known and not molested." [Chapter 33, verse 59] |

My interpretation of it is that Modesty is the key. Arguably tight clothing with a covered head does not fit as it is still 'sexy'. I wear hijab but my take on it is not to wear a black jilbab every day. I don't find it practical. I wear looser clothing & still follow many fashion trends. Simply buy a size or two up - of course long sleeved etc. so no flesh on show. Outline of breasts etc. should'nt be too visible. I can't see anywhere that you have to look bland. No bars on colour co-ordination either. The main thing is to dress modestly & avoid looking provactive. You can still look attractive but its a different kind of attractiveness. Not sexual. I stress that this is just my interpretation - in the same way as the Egyptian women you mentioned have theirs. Others believe a shapeless black jilbab is the right way.
Who knows who is right? Allah wa 3lam
