I would like to say bring it back (in fact I say it all the time
). However, my serious view is that until we have a 100% fair legal system, it should not be brought back. No country in the World has a completely fair legal system.

I'm against it too.
You can let someone out of jail if there's a miscarriage of justice. You can't bring them back to life. Also, on a wider level, the criminal justice system is supposed to be about stopping crime and re-offending. The death penalty is about pure bloodthirsty vengeance, and that's not a good basis for the law. V

I am against it unless the person is guilty of multiple murders or has harm kids and is likely to reofend or has commited a very nasty crime and has confested. because we have seen many innocent people being wrongly charged.
God is most merciful and we should at least try to help the society rather than punish the individuals |

The problem in the UK is that there really isn't much in the way of reintegrating offenders. Especially when they have addiction issues. I know a number of people who undergo 'treatment' in prison, come out, are unsupported, get back with the same old crew, start using again - plus reoffending to pay for the next fix. Next thing you know, they are back in Court, sent down again & the cycle is repeated. One guy I know is in his mid 30s & has spent much of the last 20 years in prison. He has lost his family & noone will employ him. With no support network, no hope & living alone in a B&B - what do you expect someone to do? The only 'stable' he has in his life is drugs.
Without meeting them, you can feel that they are cretins & need to be locked up. However, many have lost their youth & all their hope after spending so much time locked up for domestic burglaries (usually). A few months 'treatment' & then thrown back into the real world is not the answer. Their real 'crime' was becoming an addict & the system really fails them. With regard to violent racist thugs, serial rapists/murderers, persons 100% proven guilty of unprovoked sadistic attacks, or the Gary Glitters of this world = well, I think there a case for execution

[rant starts] Ever thought about this? A lot of countries that have the death penalty saying it is the ultimate deterrent, ok? So you might think you would have your excutions in PUBLIC to 'deter' the villains? You know, so people can see the real horror/fear of it and realise that it's not for them. NO, apart from KSA, they are always away from public scrutiny. Look at Singapore. Yesterday they killed a guy for a drug crime. Was it on prime time telly? No, it was hidden away. In fact the name of the Singapore hangman came out this week so they immediately retired him.... [rant over]
