Morocco third democracy in Middle East, North Africa

Morocco third democracy in Middle East, North Africa

Morocco ranks third among the most democratic countries in North Africa and the Middle East, concluded a study carried out by the British Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

The survey studied the political and civil freedoms in 20 countries from the Middle East and North Africa.

The ranking was based on transparency in election laws, the right to form political parties, the opposition parties, transparency, minorities' participation, freedom of assembly, independence of the judicial system, freedom of the press, the rule of law and freedom of belief.

Israel tops the list with 8.20 points, followed by Lebanon with 6.55 points, while Morocco comes third with 5.20.

Despite occupation, Iraq and Palestine, share the fourth rank with 5.05 points, says the survey.

The study places Tunisia seventh, Algeria thirteenth, Syria nineteenth, even though there has been a degree of liberalisation under President Bashar al-Assad, while Libya received the lowest rating, below Syria and Saudi Arabia, with only 2.05 points.

The study pointed out that in general a certain progress has been made in terms of freedom and democratisation, adding that democracy will increasingly reign in the countries with less violence.

This is a joke and if anybody believes it then he/she must be living in cloud cuckoo land.

For a start, there is no democracy or freedom in Tunisia and to rank that country in 7th position is really taking the p**s.

As for the other countries (including Morocco and Algeria), there is a tiny semblance of democracy and some limited freedom of the press. But by enlarge, there is no true democracy or freedom in any of the Middle Eastern or North African countries despite the Mickey Mouse elections and anyone who believes that there is democracy and freedom in Iraq is nothing but an IDIOT.

a full democracy means that the people can vote for a governement and that this governement can take over the power peacefully and that this governement have full power ...we did not get to that stage in Morocco but we are going toward it , and I agree that we should do things step by step in order not to distabilise the country , we still need a strong man with a strong hand such as the king to adress things and keep the country going and avoid chaos and anarchy ...there is no perfect democracy the so called western democracy aare but a joke and we do not want them for a model ...the western just switched from the slavery of the church and monarchies to the slavery of the "capital" ....in USA they do not allow more than 2 parties and a candidate that does not have a financial lobby behind him to finance his so called campaign cannot dream of even being a candidate or bring new ideas to the system the capital rules in each way and the presidents are but good comedients ....UK France Italy Japan are all jokes not democracies ...the capital rules and is over the law , people can vote , can protest but can never change one small bit of the things going on ...yes we want democracy and freedom in Morocco but we want it our way and we want something that comes from the people for the people , we do not want any freaking western decadence and we do niot want to become slaves of the Capital as they are ...
