The al-Qaeda in Iraq militant group has reportedly said that it will kill two Moroccan embassy employees it kidnapped last month.
The decision was announced in a statement on an Islamist website often used by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's group. It said an Islamic court found that the men were "loyalists of the oppressors". Abderrahim Boualam and Abdelkarim el-Mouhafidi disappeared last month while returning to Baghdad by road from the Jordanian capital, Amman. An earlier web posting showed images of the kidnap victims' passports and identity cards. The latest statement said the two Moroccans had been found to be "loyalists of the oppressors" and their deaths should be a "lesson" for others. Earlier this year, two Algerian diplomats based in Baghdad were kidnapped and killed by insurgents. The Egyptian charge d'affaires was also kidnapped by suspected insurgents, and believed killed. His body has not been found. Hundreds of foreigners and thousands of Iraqis have been kidnapped since the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/mid...st/4402686.stm |
