Charges Over Ripper Hoax

What a stupid and foolish thing he did! at least 2 women were murdered because of his actions!

A man has been charged over the fake tapes and letters sent to police investigating the Yorkshire Ripper murders 27 years ago.

John Humble, 49, has been charged with perverting the course of justice.


The hoax material fooled police into believing the Yorkshire Ripper was from the Castletown area of Sunderland.

The tape taunted officers involved in the case and led to the man on the tape being nicknamed 'Wearside Jack'.

The tapes and letters also diverted vital resources away from the investigation as the real Ripper, Peter Sutcliffe, struck three more times.

Humble will appear before Leeds Magistrates' Court this afternoon.

Sutcliffe, from Bradford, now 59, was jailed for life in 1981 for the murder of 13 women.
