Razrif, thanks for the great explanation! As a Christian, this stuff is all new to me. My husband isn't an observant Muslim, so he's not good at explaining it either. What I don't understand, though, is why we don't know in advance when Ramadan begins and ends. We can look in an almanac or most any calendar to see when full moons are, so why can't people know in advance when the new moon is and therefore when it begins and ends????
