First Muslim Miss England crowned

An Uzbekistan-born teenager has become the first ever Muslim to be crowned Miss England.

Hammasa Kohistani, 18, said she was delighted to have been selected to represent England in the Miss World championships.

She was born in Tashkent, central Uzbekistan, after her parents were forced to flee Afghanistan.

The brunette, who speaks six languages including Russian, Persian and French, looked ecstatic as the crown was placed on her head before a cheering crowd in Liverpool's Olympia Theatre.

She was selected from a group of 40 entrants following the two-day competition.

Dressed in an ivory white chiffon and silk ball gown designed and made by her mother, the teenager spoke of her joy at winning the title.

She said: "When they announced that I had won I thought I had misheard. I hoped they hadn't, but it took a second to sink in."

Asked about her feelings at being the first Muslim Miss England, she said: "I'm making history and I'm very happy. Hopefully I won't be the last."

The student, who was known as Miss Maya after the Asian fashion house which sponsored her, has also been offered a part in a forthcoming Bollywood movie.

LOVELY Hammasa Kohistani is a thoroughly modern Muslim.

She defeated forty other girls — including three more Muslims — to become Miss England.

They couldn't just be 3 girls, it had to be '3 more Muslims'. Why didn't they share with us the beliefs of the other contestants?? Oh, I forgot things like that only matter when Muslims are involved

Islamic leaders tried to stop the four girls taking part.

But Hammasa, 18, says: “My conscience is clear. I have done nothing wrong.”

So let's have her be a spokesperson for Islam since the girl obviously knows what she is talking about. I mean come on

It’s worth noting that clever Hammasa speaks six languages, has been offered a role in a Bollywood movie, is sponsored by an Asian fashion house, and could be the next Miss World.

She is clearly a super advertisement for contemporary Muslim culture.

Contemporary...Modern... Who do these guys think they are?? They label who is modern and who isn’t?? It’s pathetic how they think that Muslims are worth being called modern only when they embrace western culture. Like westerners are the only experts on this matter.
