A Derbyshire woman is appealing against a Home office decision banning her Moroccan husband returning to Britain.
Abdelilah Hadik, who has a 10-month-old daughter with his wife Sophie, had to fly back to his native Morocco in January to reapply for a visa.

But British Embassy officials in Casablanca have turned it down. They said they feared the couple would rely on benefits, despite them having jobs.

The Home Office said rules on spouses' visas were tightened up two years ago.

It said extra measures were brought in to combat abuse of the system.

A spokesman said it should not inconvenience or penalise genuine couples but said he could not comment on individual cases.

An appeal has now been launched with the Immigration Appeals Tribunal.

'Miss him'

The couple, who live in Clay Cross, have been married for about two years, while Mr Hadik has lived in England for about four years.

Mrs Hadik said: "It's so disheartening when they think that when we love each other to bits.

"It's coming up to our second wedding anniversary and it's also coming up to our daughter's first birthday in October.

"He is probably not going to be here for that.

"I miss him to bits and I really want him home by my side, seeing our little girl grow up."

Mmmm, the problem is that a lot of Moroccans marry men or women who aren't working and ARE reliant on benefits. Then the spouse gets a job just to cover the period till the visa is given. More often than not, it is true that the couple end up on benefits.

They are strict in Casa. The Moroccan staff are even worse than the Brits. Someone was telling me that they have even asked people if they have consummated the marriage - like that is any of their business

Some Moroccan staff need a kicking. They are rude to callers & even ruder to visa applicants. The only time they behave is when someone puts them in their place. If you marry a cousin, they often issue a standard refusal about cousins doing each other favours and then divorcing after they get their indefinite leave. Now if Moroccan staff didnt tell them that, how the Hell would they know??

Personally I don't believe that local staff should be employed in embassies/consulates because they tend to be the worst. Not just Casa, everywhere. A lot act like they have the keys to the UK when all they are are paper pushers. Not enough people complain about poor service.

Thumbs up I totally agree

I haven't had the pleasure of dealing with them

From what i've heard they are spiteful too (a bit like the staff on Spanish boats & banks & anyone with a little bit of power)

Angry I know her feeling

Because of 9/11 the U.S. INS sperated into 2 seprate entities. And lost of all my husbands papers. They do not even have him on the computer.

I last saw my husband June 26, 2000. Five days before I found out I was pregnant with our youngest. He has never seen her other than pictures. He has missed more than just her birthdays but her first words, steps, and now her first day of school.

Everyday is a struggle for us. And to try to explain that he is the educated one who can wok and support our family is useless. To explain that I hold our daughter when she is crying for daddy is useless. Because no one in the goverment cares!

We can't afford to be here without him. We can't afford to go visit him. I can't even affod to take the baby (who is 4 now) so he can see her. And yet if I could get us there I can't afford to pay for school because my kids only speak english.
