Rabat, Morocco, 08/24 - Some one million Moroccans living abroad have passed through the port of Tanger in northern Morocco since 15 June to spend the summer holidays at home, official records indicate.

Tanger port police say the arrivals have dropped compared to the peak periods when the port of entry received an average of 20,000 passengers per day from mainly European countries.

About 3.5 million of the 5 million Moroccan emigrants essentially living in Europe spend the summer holidays in their home country every year.
br> The Moroccan police statistics Monday showed that Moroccans living abroad returned to their home country on board 153,967 cars and 2,384 buses during the summer holidays

About 18 ferries, including four fast-speed ferries, have been mobilised for the Europe-Morocco crossing, with five ocean-going vessels taking people to the French, Italian and other European ports several times a day.

Moroccan emigrants remitted 1.6 billion euros in the first half of 2005, a 21 percent increase compared to the average of the accrued transfers in the last five years estimated at 1.3 billion euros.
