Moroccan companies' production increased by 46%, block sales by 51%, and exports by 27%, in the first half of 2005, according to a survey of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM).

Production and block sales increased, mainly in the sectors of trade, services, building industry, electricity, electronics, tourism, telecommunication and audiovisual.

However, agro-industry, automotive industry and mining remained stable, while the sectors of chemistry-para-chemistry and metallurgic, mechanic, electric and electronic industries decreased.

A total of 27% of the companies involved in the survey saw their exports increase in the first half of 2005. These companies operate mainly in tourism, electronics and electricity.

According to the survey, perspectives second half of 2005 range between stability and an increase of production, block sales and exports.

The current production capacity was considered “sufficient” for 65% of the companies surveyed and “very sufficient” for 22%, while the production capacity exploitation was estimated at 72%.

As for competitiveness, 54% of the companies said they had maintained their position in the domestic markets, and 52% said they maintained their position in international markets.

A total of 35% of the these companies said their turnover increased, while 16% declared their turnover decreased.
