Military coup in Mauritania


Mauritanian army troops take over state radio and television while president is on visit to Saudi Arabia.


NOUAKCHOTT - Mauritanian army troops, dominated by presidential guard members, took over Wednesday the armed forces headquarters, state radio and television buildings in the capital Nouakchott in a coup d'etat, an AFP journalist saw.

The troops had moved into the buildings from 5:00 am (0500 GMT) and also blocked off access to the presidential palace and government ministers, while President Maaouyia Ould Taya was in Saudi Arabia for the funeral of King Fahd.

Military vehicles equipped with heavy weaponry and anti-aircraft guns took up positions in the capital.

All state media broadcasts were interrupted and no announcement had been made by the putschists several hours after their takeover.

because Ould Taye3 was our man , today news say that he will be seeking political asylum in Morocco ...but the new man on power seems to be on the right side too because the first foreign enovoyee he received was from our king , Mauretania should stay a sattelite to Morocco , we could not afford let it slip into the influence of Algeria ...especially that Mauretania will start producing oil starting from the next year ...Mauretania belongs to Morocco , mauretania is a stupid republic created by the frenchies , Mauretania should have never existed . we can invade it in 2 hours and kill all the scum bags living there
