For the sisters out there (or brothers in beards) how do you feel after Thursday?

To be honest I haven't been wearing hijab much lately (too hot especially that heatwave 2 weeks ago, and being pregnant adds to it).

I feel like in future - and perhaps I am horrible for saying this - I will only wear hijab when the dust settles. I don't look Muslim without a hijab . I know this is a defeatist attitude but I feel like I can't deal with any hassle right now. I don't feel like making a point either.

My hubby doesn't have a beard and looks more European than Arab so that makes me feel safer too.

How do you all feel? I just want to get on with

Unhappy I understand

I live in a very.....redneck part of the united states. Where many still think if you are not white and Christian then you are fair game for them to bother. So I am even nervous for me and my daughters to wear hijab even going to the mosque here. I mean we will put them on in the car once we get there.
My 12 year old wants to wear hers full time and I have to say I will not let her. I worry about what some idiot will do to her.
It is OUR choice to wear or not. And I too choose not to until I am either in a more muslim friendly place or till all the dust settles.
Huggles,
Criossa

Smile

Salam Anon,

Hope all is well inshallah...

Honestly speaking the wearing of the hijab or the beard for a man, has NO effect on weather you will be safer or not sis, if something is ment to happen to you it will, weather you are wearing the hijab or having a beard.

We as muslims should be proud of who we are and inshallah if you love Allah(swt)then Allah will love you, Hijab and the beard is more of a protection for you than anything else...

Allah y hdeena wa safi...Ameen.

Fa aman ilah inshallah...

Anon,
I understand where you're coming from & everyone must do whatever makes them comfortable. We are all on edge right now. Fear of terrorist attack is enough to deal with. Plus you are carrying a child & you must not place any more unnecessary stress on yourself at this time

From my own perspective, I was scared on Thursday. Scared that I would be attacked or abused by some idiots on my way home. However, I honestly did not think of takig hijab off. My view is that it took so much for me to decide to wear it & now it is part of my identity. I do not want to fight or place myself in danger. However, I don't want to run at the first hurdle. We cannot allow fear of idiots to make us change who we are. After all, this country prides itself on the freedoms given to citizens. We cannot let the terrorists take our freedoms away. In the main, press coverage has been ok, trying to calm the situation down for ordinary Muslims. Inshallah once the fear passes, we will be ok.

Salam

I do not have a beard not dress as a strick muslim
I have been warned over and over not to go to Mosques for my own safety etc.. but I found that a retarded excuse. but I must say that many people have spoken out in places where i work. many were making fun of me by keeping pointing out quotes like" oh TI please speak to your comrades who attack innocents all because of islam and some keep hinting at Martine luter as being a peaceful man because he uses the bible while Malcom X was a violent one because he was using Islam , all these evil and twisted comments do not help etc..." but on the other hands it is also a good way to explain correct islam to people who have no knowledge and sadly it is not as easy as we think expecially when you have other idiots claiming to be muslims and supporting criminals.
