I'm in favour. Our information is stored in various places now anyway - this is simply centralising it. ID cards can help with benefit fraud and illegal immigration too. Benefit fraud is clearer - you cannot claim without one of these cards. They should be harder to forge than passports. I'm not a 'coconut' btw
![]() Its just that when we think of illegal immigrants, we mustn't only think of people wanting to earn money to send home. You must also think of criminals. Making it harder for people to live illegally will actually protect the most vulnerable who are working in the 'black market'. Those who are being paid £2 an hour and having their wages withheld by unscrupulous people who are taking advantage of them. The young girls trafficked in, locked up all day while working in sex shops. If you think it isn't happening anymore, think again. There are still large numbers of Albanian, Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian and Romanian girls coming in. It is not limited to Eastern Europeans - also West African girls. Not adults. Girls. Even if the information is used for surveillance purposes. So what? Even without it, we are being watched. London has an ever-increasing amount of CCTV so it's not as if they aren't watching us already. As long as it isn't acutely invasive and it doesn't affect my daily life, I couldn't care less if they put a camera on every house

If the Government are serious about crime and security, they should ensure the police and security services have sufficient resources - not waste billions on an ID card scheme that won't stop serious criminals or terrorists but will inconvenience millions of law-abiding citizens.
In 1990 there were people claiming up to 70 times using fake IDS from France and Algerians were selling the whole package for about 500 including driving licence, ID passport and Credit card. what we need is better communication between governement departments. the Inland revenue claims that is the only way to stop fraud but the reason they are not doing it is because the cost is too high. |

ID cards are a waste of time and money
All of the Madrid bombers had valid Spanish ID cards, and it didn't stop them.
IMO Tihad's right. ID cards are a costly and invasive waste of time. V
