Ghazala , I would love your opinion on this please. I know this was discussed before but my question is more specific.
For a COUPLE travelling to Morocco (no family , kids etc) is it better to travel by plane or drive/ferry. I have never done the road trip. My hubby did it years ago with his mates before we were married and says he had a great time?! This year we are planning visit Maroc in September. Air tickets will cost around £400 return for the both of us (which I think is not bad at all). I think that is cheaper than the drive/ferry route will cost! But my hubby wants to go by car, says it will be an “adventure”. The word “adventure” scares me He reckons it will be fun as I have never done the road trip before and we can stay in a hotel in Spain along the way. Also, we need a car in Maroc (but we could fly and hire one there anyway). Any thoughts? Could the road trip actually be fun ? A once in a lifetime experience? Or should we just stick to the known route and travel by plane? Thanks! |

And where have you been?Yeah the weather in July/August is mean, that's why we decided on late September. Do you really think its cheaper to drive down? I don't think so. Added car insurance , fuel (we have a 4x4 which is quite heavy on fuel). Also, a hotel stay in Spain? Besides ferry crossings with a car are supposed to be quite expensive aren't they? Last time I went to France the ferry crossing cost the same as a Eurostar return! |

Where have you been ?
Kendra and I were quarantined like a pair of criminals for standing up to a certain mod! Then we wnet on strike...![]() Im not sure how much the ferry crossing is to France, but the boat from Algericas is cheap, i paid about £22 return but as a foot passenger. Its better to buy the tickets in the UK. Ive been by car many times, but as a youngster & my parents took care of everything so I'm probably not the best person to give prices.

Anon - where have you been honey?
Missed you here - esp. with the two 'criminals' off the board too ![]() I have never done the road trip thing for much the same reasons as you have stated. As far as I can see, its not economical when its only two people with little baggage going straight down. That said, I will be trying the road trip next year Inshallah because we want to travel across Europe & take in France Belgium Germany Italy & Spain before popping home for 10 days. The best way to do that is by road as you can stop as & when rather than stick to a schedule. Its not cheaper but its worth it for the freedom. It sounds like your husband does want to do it that way so perhaps you should try it (go on, be my guinea pig ) - kidding! BTW - did you know BA do off season to Fes direct from Gatwick? A friend of mine went in January for £149. We stopped there too - its only 2 hr 15 mins. Something to bear in mind if you go off season. I just checked it on the BA website & two weeks from end of Sept is £219 incl taxes. No long drive from Casa & you arrive at your in-laws as fresh as a daisy
