Did anyone see the documentary about Muslim girls in France fighting for the right to keep wearing the hijab in schools? Interesting.

Asslam Alaikoum ~ Nadz~

Trust all is well with you

What really made me laugh, was when a the teacher said, how nice it was for pupils to wear sexy clothes ! What, the hell do they know about dignity ! ?

My overall impression of the programme, was that those young girls did HAVE dignity, conviction of wearing the hijab and above all were passionate.

The behaviour of the French government is absolutely outrageous. Though they may think they can harm the Muslim society by such actions, we have strength in numbers and there is nothing that can be done to hinder the will of Allah.

The peaceful and passive demonstrations that were planned, I think were the most effective way of getting the message across. It is times like these that we must learn to work with one another and become one under the name of Islam.

I saw it

Missed the first 15 mins...yes it was interesting.

I think its sad that these girls are not getting an education because they insist on wearing hijab.
When I was at school-very few girls wore the Hijab, and those that did were either forced or talked into wearing it.

Now nearly all North african girls are walking around in a hijab-even little girls as young as 3

I wear hijab myself and see the benefits first hand. However, I have to agree with Anisa that 3 year olds in hijab is not right. It's like robbing children of their childhood. Just last week we had some Moroccan visitors and the five year old had one of those ready made buqa style hijabs on. She took it off while she was in our house and when they we leaving the mum wanted to put it back on for her and she didn't want to. The mum replied "daddy is going to get cross". That made me sad and angry at the same time. I am all for hijab, I am all for bringing up kids in an Islamic way but forcing young children to wear a scarf is not right and not Islamic. Some may say kids have to learn from young. I say instil the values and they will see the light themselves. There are plenty teenagers who start wearing hijab of their own accord in their teens. That to me is healthy.

Also, missing out on an education due to hijab. That is not conviction, its just silly. I saw on Islamic programme (think it was on Sharjah telly or Al-Jazeera) where they said IN A WORST CASE SCENARIO, girls can take off scarfs to go to school if the alternative is that they will miss out on education. However scarves should be taken off and put back on the school gate, to show the authorities that students are being oppressed and they will continue to wear hijab outside. That to me made sense.

I agree Anisa, when I was at school, it was only the Asian girls who wore hijab, and it was those transparent yoyo hijabs that always fell off their head. But al~humduillah the rise amongst the younger generation are following the deen by conviction.

As for the age of children as young as 3 wearing hijab, well the covering is only required for girls who reach puberty. That it self is another thread, perhaps ?

My cousins in France and Belgium, do wear hijab and have an education, but they must remove the hijab outside the school gates, {I think it's a few yards, before they reach the School premises, Allaho Alam}.

Thumbs down yes

I think its wrong to make children wear hijab.
as anon said, they should be instilled with good values and be taught about islam, but not make them wear it and say 'this way they will never know what its like to go out without hijab' I find that attitude disgusting.
Children should be allowed to enjoy their childhood.
