Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice (SHARP)

SHARP began in New York City 1987. At that time there was a prevailing attitude in the press that all Skinheads were White-Power Nazis. This attitude was heavily endorsed by the burgeoning tabloid media. A small group a Skins and like minded Punks took it upon them selves to form a group to act as a media vehicle in order to spread a different message; that all Skinheads are not the same, that we have different ideals and different beliefs, both personal and political.

I have not heard of them either, until just recently.
I don't think its going be an easy discussion since most
stereotype skinheads as racist fascists.

However, i would like to know what others have to say about this organisation. Apparently, they do not only exist in America and it's not limited to Whites or Heterosexuals either.

I guess we just associate skinheads with racist louts. Certainly in the UK, apart from those Beckham wannabes, a group of skinheads usually means trouble. A bit of racist abuse at best - a good kicking at worst.
People make the same assumptions with Rastafarians. I know I did until I worked with someone who followed the faith.

BTW - how do I get into the new chatroom? Am a complete technophone btw so can you keep it really basic?
