Salam all,

As from 1st Febuary 2005, if you don't have permission to be in the UK - i.e. Hareg or on a visitors visa, you will not be able to marry someone with passaport l'**** to remain in the UK until you get personal permission from the Home Secretary!

This means that if you don't give notice to marry before this date, you are basically screwed, as the Home Office will tell you to go home and make a marriage application there.

My advice to everyone in this situ, get down to the jewellers, get down on one knee, get down to the registry office quick smart! You have 11 days from today!

Good luck brothers! (and sisters )

Salam sis,

Thats OK, as the registrar will need to see that the person has at least 3 months left on their visa, and has resided in the UK for 6 months prior to the marriage.

You only need personal permission from the Home Secretary is after 1st February 2005. Before this time you need to apply for an intention to get married to the registrar of births, deaths and marriages.

If you apply for this intention after 1.02.05, you will need to have the leave that I explained to nadia i.e. 6 months previous residence and three months leave left on your visa. If not it is either personal permission or first plane back home.

It is all very confusing
