Thumbs down A goog portrayal

It was completely negative and as anisa said generalises to all muslims. Who do not necessarily live that double life! The point is that time and time again the message is conveyed that muslims are unhappy people. It reinforces an unrealistic ideology. True, Yassmines case may be typical of SOME muslimahs, but by no means not all!

Its the message that people are getting about muslims.

From what I've heard of the show it seems to have got the general sentiments that are prevalent among British muslims today right...albeit a bit far fetched in some areas. But the problem is that this is the MINORITY...I mean yeah, there are tons of Asians up North who are extremely traditional and live lves just like "yasmin", but what about London for example? What about Middle eastern Arabs muslims who've made it and have the right balance between East & West? or Turkish muslims, who tend to be very relaxed and western in their mentality???

I actually said :
"i thought it was a good portrayal of a girl leading a double life caught between east and west"

not a good portrayal of Islam

I don't think that it was meant to be a portrayal of all Muslims, but the majority. I think that there are a minority of strong minded muslimah's who are proud to be who they are... but they are just that, a minority. However, I do agree that it is the same old thing regurtitated over and again in the stupid plot-lines, but the thing that everyone needs to remember is that this is going to be good viewing. No one want to see a highflying career minded Muslimah, in the above. It just wouldn't fit into the plot or get viewers. Plus Yassmin is a good portrayal of asian Muslimahs, to the extent that it could be about 80%, thats a lot.

Generally, people know that Muslimahs are not oppressed, but what films like these try to reflect is the struggle to fit in, the balance that Muslims have to strike and the sacrifices we have to make for our families and our religion.

Kendra from the general tone of your post it appeared as though you were in agreement with them.
The whole programme was about Islam, and you said "it was well done" and "it did its job". What was its job exactly???... other than degrading Islam.

The story lines are completely rubbish in my view. They are simply feeding off of peoples inscurities. Is there not more to a muslims life than Jihad??

It wouldnt hurt them once in a while to produce something positive (or maybe it would).
