A Moroccan magazine has taken the unprecedented step of publishing details of King Mohammed VI's salary.

The French-language magazine Tel Quel says the monarch earns less than a typical company director in the developed world, under $45,000 a month. The annual expenses of the royal court are said to be around $250m.

Correspondents say the publication of such figures is a unique event in the Arab region, whose unelected leaders are some of the richest in the world.

King Mohammed has been spearheading a drive to modernise his society and introduce a culture of accountability, correspondents say.

He has made the fight against poverty in Morocco one of his priorities, earning him the name "guardian of the poor".

Since coming to power in 1999, he has embarked on a series of political and economic changes.

MOROCCO AS MOST ARABIC COUNTRIES DOES NOT PRODUCE ..
HAVE NO CREATIVITY ,AND CREATIVITY OF JOBS..
PEOPLE WHO CAN MAKE THINGS HAPPEN NOT JUST SPEAK OF THINGS
LIKE CAR MAKERS AND BIKES ,I MEAN EVERYTHING TO BE TOUGHT TO THE YOUTH so that we can have jobs and depend on ourselves..
markets or not euro or dollars we have our stuff taken care off ..
i guess this is not possible since we are typical consumers
and weak in technology
as for the king been in the side of the poor ..
it was a joke

the king's salary is fair , but the expenses of the royal court 250 millions dollars a year are way too much , the quenn of the britts and her court do not spend more than 40 millions dollars a year !!!!!!!!!!! what services the court is giving back to the moroccan people for that money ...NOTHING ...ZERO ...ZERO....

The Morocco I knew was very dark indeed. this new Morocco is facing the same difficulties other nations have. people here in the Uk may drive fast cars and live in big houses but the happiness and peace is not there.more drugs, more sex more violence and even more misery for the elderly.
No land is safe, in Morocco at least kids can play freely and people still eat fresh meat and vegetables and sit around the same table and the elderly still live under the care of their children.
