Its that time of year again. So for those fellow moroccan muslims what do you do when invited to a Christmas lunch/dinner?
There are some who refuse outright to have any part in the celebration, others who take a more liberal view and go along. The greatest difficulty i perceive is that by not participating you tend to alienate yourself from collegues and friends. Conversely, by attending, feel you are comprimising your beliefs and values to some extent. I appreciate that as Muslims respecting others religion is part of our duty so this is not really the issue, but it is more with regards to keeping the ties of the relationship you have. Any thoughts

Well up until last year, coming from a mixed religion background and not practising Islam, we celebrated all the Islamic and Christian festivals, with Christmas probably being the "biggest" of them all....this year though I've made it clear nobody is getting any Xmas cards/pressies or anything from me, and that I don't want anything myself. As Sista said there are varying degrees as to how "far" a muslim will go in terms of including themseleves in the festivities. I imagine it must be harder for those who are working, with office parties and things like that...?
Interesting post Sista!

Every year i used to spend Oct to Dec searching for those unique presents and how many time go t wronG
.and the headache that goes with it was unbearable. This year hamdollah i will spend christmas in the mosque worshipping Allah(SWT) who deserve it more than anyone on this planet. as to the parties well every year i used to spend so much money on Alcohol and end up looking like a Dog in the morning after. and this year all drinks free all night as well as transport and I am very pleased to refuse the ticket instead i will do something completely new and halal and wake up fresh as the night before. Bear in mind Christmas was nothing but man's celebration if I were to be invited to those parties i would put my interest first before anyone and if i had any friends they would respect my wish. My opinion |

I personnaly have no problem with any celebration if it makes people happy it's great. but to use it as a holy celebration is wrong. if they all sit and praise God than why not but sadly Xmas celebration is about Who drinks Alcohol the most and who buy the best gifts and have seen poor people going being beyond their means to spend more........ and that is a big NO NO.
