Marrakech art scene?

I’m an artist/photographer in California, this summer (for most of July) I'll be traveling in Morocco, where most of my stay will be in Marrakech. I was wondering If anyone new of the art community in Marrakech, I and another artist friend of mine (who is coming on the trip as well) like to wander through small galleries and art show rather than the larger museums. I just wanted to see what might be around just to get an Idea?

Essaouira, Morocco is just a 3 hour bus ride from Marrakesh and has a great art scene.
