Reggaeton uses the same if not simular beats and type backdrop as dancehall. When Reggaeton first started up they used dancehall riddims (it is typical in dancehall for 20 artists to use the same riddim and Jamaican records are popular throughout the Carribean and Latin Americas). It is all about making hits that are able to be played to disco to.
I'll look later for an article about it. I do know that on dancehall and dub forums it has now been taken over by kids who love reggaeton which has caused a bit of friction with some of the rudeboi camps.
Sorry about not getting back to you. InshaalLah I shall write. Take care
And no Pancit, there is nothing, nothing reggae about the "backbeat" to reggaeton: no syncapated bassline that the song carries on (which is different than most music, drums are usually what carries a song), no random drums that constantly change (reggaeton has study up tempo rhythms; snare hits on the 2 and 4), no guitar with wah or piano hits on the off 8ths (that would be: 1
and 2
and 3
and 4). Reggae is typically around 70 beats per minute while reggaeton is around 100.
Your just going to have to trust me on this, there is nothing simular between these two genres of music.
