Hello,

I am currently living in Miami, and I am planing to move to Tanger in couple of months to live there for 2-3 years. I have some questions (Actually I have many but I will keep them short) about the city.

First of all, do you think only speaking English will be enough to live there and enough to socialize? (for work it is no problem since the company will have translators)

Are there a lot of foreigners/westerners living there? Are there any specific places to meet them?

How is the social life in the city?

How much rent is enough for a decent apartment? and a car?

Is it easy to get a broadband connection?

I heard tanger is very close to Spain? How long does it take to go Spain by ferry from tangers and are there a lot of waiting in customs?

Also, any tips about the city is very welcome. Most of the information on the net is for tourists and I am having hard time to find any information that would be useful for a foreigner moving there.

help

i am mounir from tangier and i am living there, i am 26 years old and i am working in a bank.
i've read your message and i would like to help you by modest information .
living in tangier isn't difficult and costly: to rent monthly an appartement you need in average 300 dollars, for a car you have to come here in morocco and choose by yourself the type and mark you like.
to live isn't so expensive like in miami it's cheaper
bus 0.4 $
chic restaurent for too people: 40 $
electricity for an confortable appartment: 40 $ monthly
in tangier there are many people frome many countries and leaving there, most of theme are from france spain or turkish, but speaking english isn't enough to live sociably.
i think it is necessary for you to take courses in french !
to mail me if you need any further information is mounirforever@hotmail.com.
thank you for reading me even if i don't have a very good level in english.
bye

Faridi,

Thanks for the very informative reply. When I know for sure the date I am coming there I will definately email you.

Btw, you mentioned that there are Turks living there. I am Turkish as well and out of my curuosity what are they doing there? Are they mostly construction people? or people actually living there permanently? I never tought there would be many turks living in Morocco.
