Nouzha Chekrouni, minister in charge of the Moroccan Community Living Abroad, known by its French acronym (MRE), said that teaching language and culture for Moroccans living abroad is among the priorities of her department, reported MAP.

“Among the priorities is to collaborate with the European Union to set a project of teaching Arabic language and culture for Moroccans living abroad. This will help adapt education to new demands,” said Chekrouni in an interview published Thursday by the electronic website Menara.

She praised the preparation by the European parliament of a project that converges on the propositions of her department.

“The cultural question is important but it needs financial means,” she said, stressing the necessity to involve all partners in order to realise at least three projects in this field.

Concerning the use of new technologies to teach Arabic language for the (MRE), the minister explained that they are a fundamental tool because Internet has become easier in Europe.

“I believe that this will complete our efforts already achieved through education,” she said, adding that “there is a distance learning project launched by the Hassan II Foundation, in partnership with the Ministry of National Education.”

What a joke. Instead of spending any cash on teaching Moroccans living abroad Moroccan culture, why not spend the money setting up workshops for Moroccans living abroad to actually progress in their adopted lands. If anyone saw Edward Said's final Interviews, he touched upon this subject in relation to the Palestinian struggle. He said something about AID that was coming in and being used to set up Palestinian cultural centres around Gaza and the West bank. Edward thought the funds would be better used to educate the population at large and prepare them for today's global workforce. Real skills not just knowing how to roll a cous cous ball I say.
