Children of population sequestered in Tindouf deported by thousands to Cuba, denounces deportation victim
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 11/24/2004

Children of Moroccans sequestered in Tindouf camps (southern Algeria) are deported by groups of thousands to Cuba, which leaves deep sufferings, the most terrible of which is the denial of maternal love, denounced Ms Saadani Maoulainaine, herself a victim of deportation, before a group of German reporters.

Children are kidnapped at the age of eight, said the woman, who spent 13 years of forced exile in Cuba.

She also deplored that displaced children are losing all their identity references, including Arabic language, traditions and dressing, insisting that the most cruel deprivation is the loss of maternal love and family warmth.

She also explained that this technique is used by the Algeria-backed Polisario separatists as a pressure on parents who are, as a result, at the mercy of the mercy of their torturers

Maoulainaine, now a sociologist, further recounted how the graduates have their diplomas confiscated by the Polisario and the sufferings inflicted on those sequestered in the camps, where abuses and other forms of tortures and human rights violations are a daily practice.

My father died in the Polisario jails as a result of torture, and this left me with a psychological trauma, she said, stressing that her trip in Germany is meant to reveal to the German public opinion the Polisario practices.

Another former member of the Polisario, Ms. Keltoum Khayat, also told the German media how the Polisario is receiving money and aid that go directly to the separatists' pockets. The population held in the camps are used as a pretext for the Polisario leaders to collect money, said the woman who revealed that she was enrolled at a young age, like thousands of others, to serve the personal interests of the separatists who are seeking the separation of the Moroccan Southern provinces, known as the Sahara from the rest of the country. The former Spanish territory was retrieved by Morocco in 1975 under the Madrid Accords signed with Spain and Mauritania.

The former official in charge of women's international relations at the Polisario also unveiled before the German media some of the inhuman practices in the camps and that includes forced marriage for young girls and denying them contraceptives in order to increase the camps populations and claim more assistance.

Assistance dispatched by donors never reach their true recipients, she deplored.
