Looking for a Moroccan Arabic Tutor in London
Salamu 3laikum,
Hi Everybody! I am new to this forum and I am looking for a native Moroccan private tutor in London (preferably East London) who can teach me Moroccan Arabic (spoken in Casablanca and Rabat) and can also speak good English. I am currently going over 'A basic course in Moroccan arabic' by Richard S.Harrel. Problem with that book is that the darija used, is the one spoken in a different part of Morocco. I recenlty found out that it's similair to the accents of Taza and Saafi (two towns - south of d-dar l-beida). Some of the words and Verbs in that book are not used by Casablancans. For example "Shelya" (chair), in Casa they use Kursi (standard Arabic). Other examples is the verb "Rfed" (He carried) is not used in Casa, they say "hezz" rather than Rfed and many other examples. I was in d-dar l-beida in Ramadhan and I tried to put some of my Moroccan in practice, but I got a lot of confused responses like... "What is Shelya? That's not Moroccan!" "Well erm.. Thats what it says here in this book. And the Guy on the CD sure sounds Moroccan to me..." Anyway.... To get to the point! lol. I need a Teacher who can teach me the Casablancan accent. So it would be good if they're originally from those parts. If not, I would like them to be at least familiar with the accent of Casablanca. I am willing to travel to the Teacher if it's necessary (only if they reside in East London). Otherwise, we'll see.. Hopefully I'll get some responses to this thread soon in sha Allah. It's been a one heck of a struggle getting hold of a Moroccan private tutor! Where are You Guys! And those language centres, that do offer Moroccan Arabic, Maaaaaaaaaan they charge a bomb! okey dokey Shukran bez zaf everybody. boo Rayyan |
