To be honest - I think this is a positive thing..

I think the importance of submitting the self to God is not defeated or changed in anyway... I do not think Gender should even be an issue..

Is spirituality and intention less significant, if a woman leads a congregation of both men and women..? doesn't such an aspect defeat the actual essence of each worshipper being an equal when each is facing God?

I think it is an intersting subject. I did not look into it if Dr. Wadud stood infront of the men or not (got no time to read much now... or write for that matter LOL) but I do not think that a woman, even while leading prayer, can stand infront of men. As far as I know there is nothing that says it is 7aram for a women to lead salat. But then what does 'imam' mean then? imam means to 'stand in front'. Let the debate begin!(as I see it has aleady has, worldwide).

this is a load of crap , some people are ready to sell body and soul in order to please the west , instead of Trying to please theire creator ALLAH ....but it looks like it is all to blame on Ossama , because of him the moslems in the west feel hostages and are ready to give up anything just not been labeled as terrorist .....the saudi ossama was the biggest disaster to our oummah ...anyway this is time when we are going to see the real moslems who will never give up one inch of theire religion , from the hypocrites who will try to please the west before the very GOD....

i remember one of my german american teacher used to sheer me up and say to me how they had to suffer the same when the war was against germany and that they had to learn polish and live in polish neighborhood in order to be safe!
he was one of the best cops and he suggested me to go for it as well..but destiny took me elsewhere!
we had talked about many things and he knew what im going throu..
so as we see society is very responsible not only fanatics or leaders!
society if not a contractif one can be very evil and lead people to be isolated or get cought into WAR.
